RESUMO

Abstract Objectives: to analyze the influence of the quality in the environment on children's motor development between six to 15 months old attending early childhood education centers. Methods: a cross-sectional and analytical study addressing children's motor development between six to 15 months old, both sexes, enrolled in nursery (0-12 months) and preschoolers (12-24 months). The Affordances in the Home Environment for Motor Development-Infant Scale and Alberta Infant Motor Scale were used in the Brazilian versions Results: the sample was comprised of 104 children and 30 early childhood education centers: presenting a mean age of 9.15 months, 88% attended full-time and 12% part-time schooling (mornings or afternoons). One center was classified with a low Affordances, 26 were considered Sufficient, and three were Adequate. Of the participating children, 40% presented typical motor development. The higher levels of Affordances suggest better motor development, and lower levels of suspected delayed motor development. Conclusion: the environments of early childhood education centers influence children's motor performance, especially daily activities and the use of toys. The lower the Affordances level, more likely children are suspected of delayed motor development.

BACKGROUND: Epidemiological studies have indicated a higher incidence of breast and gastric cancer in patients with nonsyndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (NSCL ± P) and their relatives, which can be based on similar genetic triggers segregated within family with NSCL ± P. METHODS: This multicenter study evaluated the association of 9 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in AXIN2 and CDH1, representing genes consistently altered in breast and gastric tumors, with NSCL ± P in 223 trios (father, mother and patient with NSCL ± P) by transmission disequilibrium test (TDT). RESULTS: Our results showed that the minor A allele of rs7210356 (p = 0.01) and the T-G-G-A-G haplotype formed by rs7591, rs7210356, rs4791171, rs11079571 and rs3923087 SNPs (p = 0.03) in AXIN2 were significantly under-transmitted to patients with NSCL ± P. In CDH1 gene, the C-G-A-A and A-G-A-G haplotypes composed by rs16260, rs9929218, rs7186053 and rs4783573 polymorphisms were respectively over-transmitted (p = 0.01) and under-transmitted (p = 0.008) from parents to the children with NSCL ± P. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that polymorphic variants in AXIN2 and CDH1 may be associated with NSCL ± P susceptibility, and reinforce the putative link between cancer and oral clefts.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Variants in the cysteine-rich secretory protein LCCL domain containing 2 gene (CRISPLD2) and in the jumonji, AT-rich interaction domain 2 gene (JARID2) were previously shown to influence non-syndromic oral cleft susceptibility. Herein, we performed a case-control study to examine the potential association of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in CRISPLD2 and JARID2 with non-syndromic cleft lip and/or palate (NSCL/P) in the Brazilian population. Given the ethnicity-dependent genetic predisposition to NSCL/P, we performed a structured analysis taking into account the genomic ancestry variation of each individual. METHODS: Four SNPs in CRISPLD2 (rs1546124, rs8061351, rs2326398, and rs4783099) and four in JARID2 (rs915344, rs2299043, rs2237138, and rs2076056), that were previously reported to be associated with NSCL/P, were genotyped in 785 Brazilian patients with NSCL/P (549 with cleft lip with or without cleft palate-NSCL ± P, and 236 with cleft palate only-NSCPO) and 693 unaffected Brazilian controls. Genomic ancestry was assessed with a set of 40 biallelic short insertion/deletion variants previously validated as ancestry informative markers of the Brazilian population. RESULTS: After adjustment of ancestry variations, allelic analysis revealed marginal associations between the CRISPLD2 rs4783099 T allele and increased risk for NSCPO (OR: 1.31, 95% CI: 1.05-1.62, P = 0.01) and between JARID2 rs2237138 and decreased NSCL ± P risk (OR: 0.80, 95% CI: 0.67-0.97, P = 0.02). Haplotype analysis indicated a lack of association between JARID2 haplotypes and non-syndromic oral cleft risk. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that CRISPLD2 rs4783099 may represent a risk factor for NSCPO while JARID2 rs2237138 shows a protective effect against NSCL ± P in the Brazilian population.

RESUMO

Aim: : To describe the clinical, demographic and environmental features associated with NSCL/P(nonsyndromic cleft lip and/or palate) patients born in western Parana state, Brazil. Methods: Thiscross-sectional, observational, retrospective study included 188 patients attended at the Associationof Carriers of Cleft Lip and Palate - APOFILAB, Cascavel-Parana, between 2012 and 2014.Information on demographic characteristics, medical and dental histories and life style factors wereobtained from records and personal interviews. Results: Among the 188 patients, cleft lip and palate(CLP) was the most frequent subtype (55.8%), followed by cleft lip only (CLO, 25.0%) and cleft palateonly (CPO, 19.2%). Caucasian males were the most affected, although no differences among typesof cleft were observed. The otorhinolaryngologic and respiratory alterations were the most frequentsystemic alterations in NSCL/P patients, and more than 80% of the NSCL/P mothers reported novitamin supplements during the first trimester of pregnancy. Conclusions: This study revealed thatthe prevalence of nonsyndromic oral cleft types in this cohort was quite similar to previously reportedprevalence rates. Systemic alterations were identified among 23.4% of the patients and patientswith CLP were the most affected. History of maternal exposition to environmental factors related tononsyndromic oral clefts was frequent and most mothers reported no vitamin supplements duringthe pregnancy. This study highlights the importance of identifying systemic alterations and riskfactors associated with NSCL/P in the Brazilian population for planning comprehensive strategiesand integrated actions for the development of preventive programs and treatment.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To determine the association of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes related to craniofacial development, which were previously identified as susceptibility signals for nonsyndromic oral clefts, in Brazilians with nonsyndromic cleft lip and/or palate (NSCL/P). DESIGN: The SNPs rs748044 (TNP1), rs1106514 (MSX1), rs28372960, rs15251 and rs2569062 (TCOF1), rs7829058 (FGFR1), rs1793949 (COL2A1), rs11653738 (WNT3), and rs242082 (TIMP3) were assessed in a family-based transmission disequilibrium test (TDT) and a structured case-control analysis based on the individual ancestry proportions. SETTING: The SNPs were initially analyzed by TDT, and polymorphisms showing a trend toward excess transmission were subsequently studied in an independent case-control sample. PARTICIPANTS: The study sample consisted of 189 case-parent trios of nonsyndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (NSCL±P), 107 case-parent trios of nonsyndromic cleft palate (NSCP), 318 isolated samples of NSCL±P, 189 isolated samples of NSCP, and 599 healthy controls. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Association of alleles with NSCL/P pathogenesis. RESULTS: Preferential transmission of SNPs rs28372960 and rs7829058 in NSCL±P trios and rs11653738 in NSCP trios (P = .04) were observed, although the structured case-control analysis did not confirm these associations. The haplotype T-C-C formed by TCOF1 SNPs rs28372960, rs15251, and rs2569062 was more frequently transmitted from healthy parents to NSCL±P offspring, but the P value (P = .01) did not withstand Bonferroni correction for multiple tests. CONCLUSIONS: With the modest associations, our results do not support the hypothesis that TNP1, MSX1, TCOF1, FGFR1, COL2A1, WNT3, and TIMP3 variants are risk factors for nonsyndromic oral clefts in the Brazilian population.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The MTHFR rs1801131A>C and rs1801133C>T variants have been analyzed as putative genetic risk factors for oral clefts within various populations worldwide. METHODS: To test the role of these polymorphisms in nonsyndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (NSCL/P) in the Brazilian population, we conducted a study combining a Family-Based Association Test (transmission disequilibrium test) and a structured association analysis (case-control study) based on the individual ancestry proportions. The rs1801131 and rs1801133 were initially analyzed in 197 case-parent trios by transmission disequilibrium test, and polymorphisms showing significant association with NSCL/P were subsequently studied in independent sample composed of 318 isolated samples of NSCL/P and 598 healthy controls in a case-control approach. Genomic ancestry was characterized by a set of 40 biallelic short insertion/deletion markers. RESULTS: A strong overtransmission of the T allele of rs1801133 was observed in case-parent trios of NSCL/P (p = 0.002), but no preferential parent-of-origin transmission was detected. No association of rs1801131 polymorphism with NSCL/P was observed. The structured case-control analysis supported that the T allele was significantly more frequent in the NSCL/P group (odds ratio: 1.37; 95% CI: 1.12-1.69; p = 0.002) than in the control group. Both polymorphisms were in linkage disequilibrium (D' = 0.94 and r(2) = 0.79), and haplotype-transmission disequilibrium test for allelic combination of rs1801131 and rs1801133 showed a significant overtransmission of haplotype A-T to the affected NSCL/P offspring (p = 0.001). CONCLUSION: Our findings provide evidences for the involvement of rs1801133 in the development of NSCL/P in the Brazilian population.

RESUMO

The present work is a quality-quantitative study of cause-effect type. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of a Labor Gym (LG) program in mental workload of workers from rectory of the Universidade Estadual do Oeste do Paraná (Unioeste) Cascavel. The sample consisted of 35 employees. For data collection, it was used the NASA-TLX questionnaire to evaluate the mental workload of employees. Then, the participants performed sessions of LG, totaling 20 classes. After this period the employess were re-evaluated. To characterize the sample, data were tabulated and a descriptive analysis was performed using the SPSS 15.0. The interpretation of the NASA-TLX questionnaire was based on its own methodology. Before the LG sessions, the total average dimensions analyzed was 79 (sd: 11,05), representing a high rate of mental workload. After the period of LG, the total average of final mental workload decreased, but it remained with a high rate (x:75, sd: 13.42). In relation to the comparative analysis of the initial and final averages of mental workload, by t test (bipolar), there was no significant difference (p = 0.071668).

RESUMO

The Ergonomic Work Analysis reports that there are many activities performed by the professional caregivers and that they are exposed to physical and psychological overload. This situation favors the emergence of pain which influences the quality of life in the work place. In this way, the objective of this study was to verify the main postural constraints adopted by caregivers in public day cares. Visits were conducted in 28 day cares aiming at performing an interview to 126 caregivers who have been working for more than 4 years. From the questionnaire it was found that 80% of the participants refer some sort of pain, being 42% in the trunk, 33% in the shoulder and 25% in the lower limbs. The data from OWAS method showed that from the total of 30 postures performed during the work One could see that the main postures adopted by the caregivers were: flexion, lateral inclination and rotation of the trunk and most of the time they are standing. These movements, when bad performed, can lead to injuries in the lower limbs, upper limbs and trunk. It's necessary more attention to these workers.Thought preventive ergonomic actions to reduce pain symptoms and promote a work in health and safety.

RESUMO

In the workplace there are risk factors that can overwhelm the health of the worker causing physical and psychological disorders. Among these disorders, is occupational stress. Thus, this research proposes to measure the mental workload of job stress from the identification of demand, control and social support. It is an observational cross-sectional epidemiological character, performed with the Rectory office workers at the State University of West Paraná (Unioeste). Data collection was due to the application of the "Job Stress Scale" (JSS) and in its reduced version adapted to Portuguese. The survey sample consisted of 44 individuals. Statistical analysis was correlated inversely with medium intensity (r = -0.404) between age and social support. For males was found between control and age (r = 0.603). According to the data obtained, we conclude that most workers are exposed to passive work, leading to loss of skills or disinterest in the job. This study highlights the importance of research in the area and the need for new actions that change the conditions of stress at work.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED: To be distinguished from other companies, organizations are searching norms of certifications, such as ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and BS 8.800 to become more competitive in the work market, offering health and safety to the worker and quality to the customer. This extends the performance field of the Physiotherapist, who can use their knowledge to favor the processes of implementation of these certifications. The present work aims to identify the performance of the Physiotherapist in such processes of certification, as well as to verify their knowledge concerning the norms of certification and the performance in the occupational environment. METHODOLOGY: The population was constituted by the physiotherapists who had participated at the 4° FISIOTRAB, the sample was composed by 30 physiotherapists, a questionnaire with pertinent questions to the study was applied. RESULTS: 34% of the interviewed did not know what OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 were, 66% did not know about the BS 8,800 certification. 76% of the interviewed had never participated in the implementation of certification norms; among those who had participated 28% were present during the implementation of ISO 9001, 57% at the implementation of OHSAS 18001 and 15% at that of both OHSAS and ISO 14001 together. Given that, from the 24% that had already acted in such implementations, 70% possess a specific formation in Occupational Physiotherapy. CONCLUSION: It was verified that the least part of physiotherapists have acted during the implementation of certification norms, and that even when they work in the Occupational Physiotherapy field many do not possess a deep knowledge on the different practical performances.
